Strung Out

- Entrevista enviada por correo a Strung Out en clave promocional antes de su gira estatal en España en marzo de 2010-. Gracias a la gente de Background Noise por su intermediación. Enjoy!

Hi there,

This interview is sent from PunkorLatex, bookers and webpage from Spain, and hehe, strung out fans since…1998 more or less? and it is linked to your future stop in Barcelona next march. Hope you’ll enjoy responding!

Since the punkrock and melodic hardcore bands don’t usually tour to the

north of Africa you’re quite an exception in that sense (fourth time in

Barcelona). Appart from the availabilities of your tour agents (i know you

now entered MAD), how much you try/want to play a role in deciding where to play or how you plan a tour?

-Well we always to participate in decided our touring geographics. We've

been to so many incredible places all over that we always want to increase our destinations..so we do what we can with suggestions to our booking agencies

You toured with a vast range of bands. But is there any brother band? (maybe

just because it is locally based in your city). And is there any sixth member? And an special freak fan you could mention and… he, honour him in this moment?

-I guess our brother band is Death by Stereo and Evergreen Terrace....our

sound engineer Cobra "Matt" Sound is the one that makes us found good even on nights when we sound awful .. Haha

Strung out is sometimes “aesthetically” involved (worked image, all the band uniformed on stage…), very punctillious with the musical work as far as I fell it, and in the other hand, sometimes you are “straightforward” (any band tshirt dressed, sounding direct melodic hardcore…). Both options have great and weak points. Do you also feel yourself being this… bipolar?

- I don't think of it as bipolar, but we just never want to repeat our self or be a trend or follow any rules...being able to record music this long with our extensive amounts of touring over years is a dream come true and were all just living in the moment ...

I heard that Agents of the Underground is like a compilation of Strung Out

finest things from the past. Do you agree with that? and, sure there is any,

what are the new things you wanted to add to your history, never did and

achieved to with this work?

- I think this album is kinda of a culmination of our history.we've been

this sucessfull doing what we do for so long, living just under the radar..we are the subterranean we are the agents of the underground..

What did you learn the last years thanks to the band?

- I've learned how to spend money really fast !! Haha..well, that and playing with the four other guys and recording with all these talented producers have sharpened our chops and witts..we are definetly way better songwriters now

I seen you at Groezrock two-three years ago just after Rise Against. I was

like crazy with a bunch of Barcelona fans on the front but behind us there

were 90% of the crowd standing without any dancing or singing waiting for

RA. How do you feel in such a strange situation as that? You’re not that

different, and for more years on stages than them!!!

- well we are extremly happy for those guys. They are an incredible band..to me it's all about just go up there and do your thing...some will like you some will not..but I just want play music and have fun..that's what it was all about back in high school jamming in your friends garage having fun...now I'm having fun playing around the world .. So to that I love music and i love Rise Against !!

As a Strung Out fan for 12 years I allways expect and find something new and at least convincing from you. But sometimes I ask myself if as many bands in your scene split up Strung Out could call it a day. Or maybe like Ten Foot Pole, not splitting up but disappearing or Union 13 not touring far anymore. Can we be scared about that? Is it a fact of continouing if there’s a feeling? Or nothing to do with that?

- We will keep doing this as long as we can with all the support of our fans

Which was the last band that impacted you? Even on stage or listening but

something unexpected.

-hmmm, I'd have to say I this band called Larry and his Flask. We just toured with them in the east coast with Dropkick Murphys. They're amazing ..it's like a cross between bluegrass meets rockabilly/ barbershop quartet..check the out live ! You'll be hooked.

A funny experience you could explain from a tour?

- years ago our bus broke down in France for 3 days. We were stuck in the

little town were we met sone punk rock kids took care of us and showed us

around..one night about 15 of us snuck into this public pool late at night.swam for about 20 minutes until the cops come and chase us out of there..we were on the run for like 2 hours...they never caught us ! It was like being a kid again and running from the cops ! So cool

More personals now. How much tattooed are the Strung out members? The last

joke that made you laugh? (even if it is deplorable). When you’re at your city (sta Cruz or LA?), do you have any common hobby or you only meet to work for the band and then have 100% sepparate lives? How much involved into politics are you personally?

-we're all tattoed with ink or heart

-the last joke that made me laugh is...

" what do you get when you cross an elephant with a kangaroo ?

Holes all over Australia

-at home we all do our own thing, hang out with our girlfriends, work

occasinsly and skateboard graveyards...thank you to all our fans for

everything

- Chris Aiken

Keep being yourselves, fast or potentially touching, shining and setting great and finest works as allways guys. See you at Barcelona
